MS. READ’s "Privilege To Care"(PTC) programme was officially launched in 2002 because Helen Read, Managing Director of MS. READ(M) Sdn Bhd, believes that the ability to care for someone is a privilege. The programme is directed at encouraging people to give back to the community. As Helen puts it, "Through the years, I have learnt that we live in a needy society. Some are more fortunate, others are not. Hence, I see the opportunity to help someone as a privilege to care."
The PTC began in 1986 when a deaf and mute woman came to apply for a job at the factory. One person brought another and another and eventually, MS. READ had the opportunity to start a Recruitment and Skills training Programme for more than 20 deaf/mute people in 1987. Some were taught how to lay fabric, some to sew and some, to use the more specialized machines. Today, they are all very skilled. MS. READ sees this as an opportunity to provide employment and training so that these people can provide for themselves.
MS. READ utilizes its catalogues as an avenue of promotion for the PTC. MS. READ catalogues are intended to be two-way communication channels to build a relationship with the customers, to enable the brand to respond to the customers’ needs; and in turn, to reach out to meet the needs of the rest of the community. Each MS. READ Catalogue highlights an opportunity for the reader to exercise the privilege to care – whether it is a charity, or a non-profit organization, the PTC feature brings about awareness of the need and gives the reader the chance to respond to it.
MS. READ is very thankful for the support of our customers which enables us to continue exercising the privilege to care.
