When I was growing up, my mother always told me, "Just be yourself Helen, and people will love you for who you are." It took me a while to understand exactly what she meant because the world seemed to have a different idea of who I was to be. It was only when I abandoned society¡¯s need to conform that I found true contentment within.
The warped plastic world of profit driven beauty industries have narrowed and manipulated the definition of beauty, inevitably causing a profound impact on the image of women. Today, I would like to tell all women out there just to be your absolute self! Because the true you, is radiant in its purest form.
As a designer I feel I have a responsibility in society, and that is to let all women know that there are no guidelines for glamour and sexiness. We are naturally created in all shapes and sizes. I want to spark off a discussion and challenge the unrealistic standards and typecasts of beauty. It is important to understand its concept, well being and the relationship between them. Lets support the flight against this new wave of discrimination; sizism.
Appreciating the very essence of your being is a basic human please. So don't deny that incomparable glow that radiates when you feel good about yourself. Let your confidence be rooted in your attitude. Rethink beauty, rethink value. Start celebrating the natural woman within you and liberate yourself from societal dictates. Sexy starts from within, so start with that woman in the mirror. Stand firm and celebrate your curves!
